Arjun sat in the quiet compartment of the last train heading home as the city lights flickered through the window. His day had been long, filled with endless meetings, tight deadlines, and the persistent hum of urgency. The train was nearly empty—just him, a sleepy attendant, and an old man who seemed lost in thought.
Arjun closed his eyes, trying to drown out the faint screeching of the rails. The rhythm of the train often helped him think. Tonight, however, his thoughts were heavier than usual. His dreams of creating something meaningful had been pushed aside for years in favor of his corporate grind. "Someday," he always told himself.
Suddenly, the train jolted to a halt. Confused, Arjun peered out the window. They were in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fog and dense trees. The intercom crackled, and a calm voice announced, “We apologize for the inconvenience. There will be a short delay.”
Moments later, the old man stood up and approached Arjun with a soft smile. “Strange, isn’t it? These unscheduled stops,” he said, his voice warm and inviting.
“Yeah, pretty strange,” Arjun replied, trying to sound uninterested.
The old man sat across from him, unbothered by Arjun's reluctance. “You look like someone searching for something.”
Caught off guard, Arjun frowned. “I’m not searching for anything.”
The old man chuckled. “That’s the problem with people these days. They think they’re not searching, but their eyes give it away. You’re restless. What is it? A dream you’ve forgotten?”
Arjun hesitated. The man’s words struck a chord. “I used to have a dream,” he admitted. “I wanted to build something of my own, inspire people. But life gets in the way.”
“Life only gets in the way if you let it,” the old man replied. “You’re on a train paused in the middle of nowhere. Maybe this is your chance to rethink where you’re going.”
Before Arjun could respond, the train began moving again. The old man smiled, stood up, and disappeared into the next car. Arjun blinked, confused. Was this some strange coincidence, or was he meant to meet this peculiar stranger?
As the train pulled into his station, Arjun felt a spark of determination reignite. He realized he didn’t want to be stuck on the same track forever. That night, instead of falling into bed exhausted, he sat down with a notebook and began sketching out plans for his dream project.
It wouldn’t be easy, but he was finally ready to jump off the safe train of routine and build his own path.
